10 Verses for When You Need a Little Faith

Do you ever wish you had faith like the greats in the Bible? Today we’ll talk about that along with ten verses that help my faith.

10 Verses for When You Need a Little Faith | HISsparrowBlog

What is faith? Not the textbook definition. I’m talking about the kind of faith Noah had when he built the ark knowing it had never before rained. The kind of faith David had when he ran from Saul for thirteen years—after he was anointed to be king of Israel. The mustard seed kind.

When I was younger, I thought faith was something I could conjure. After all, how many people were commended in the Bible for their faith? Let’s see…

Matthew 9:2 says:

And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.”

And in Mark 5:34:

And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”

Oh, and of course the classic–Matthew 17:20 says:

And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”

When I read verses like these, it sounds like I just need to do better. It’ll please God and He’ll bless me if I just have a great big faith. But how do I do that?

I’m coming to realize that maybe David-like faith isn’t something I can do. There are so many paradoxes and perhaps faith is one of the biggest ones. Ephesians 2:8 says:

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.

And I love this one in Mark 9:23-24:

And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”

Faith the size of a mustard seed is grown by God. As with everything in a Christian’s life, God is the answer.

In an effort to focus my attention on God, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite verses. Each one speaks to me in a different way, but all of them give insight into God. And in God, my faith is grown.

The Jews said to Him, 'You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham_' Jesus said to them, 'Before Abraham was born, I AM.' John 8:57-58 NASB
We love, because He first loved us. If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:19-20 NASB | HISsparrowBlog
Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7 | HISsparrowBlog
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4_4 NASB _ HISsparrowBlog
He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him. John 14:21 NASB
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take up the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will take hold of me. Psalm 139:7-10 NASB | HISsparrowBlog
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. James 3:9 NASB | HISsparrowBlog
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20 NASB | HISsparrowBlog
At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is Lord. Philippians 2:10-11 NASB
You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe and shudder. James 2:19 NASB

I’m thankful it’s not the size of our faith, but the size of our God, that makes all the difference. A little faith in a big God moves mountains!

“Faith the size of a mustard seed is grown by God. As with everything in a Christian’s life, God is the answer.” Yes, I am so grateful that as we lean on God and His Word, He grows our faith to be secure in Him.
