What’s something you’ve waited on? The feeling is indescribable when you finally get it, but it can take a long time before that happens, and that feeling is indescribable too.
What are you waiting for right now? I’m sure something popped into your head, because we’re all waiting for something: the one, a child, that dream job, a good report from the doctor, that last credit card statement, reconciliation with a family member, or maybe a lost friend’s surrender to God.
And not only do we all have in-between times at any given point, but we usually react similarly to them. We question ourselves. We question God’s will for our lives. We question God’s goodness and timing.
We even try to get around the waiting—to skip it somehow like it’s within our control to move things along. I’ve tried that several times, and not one time did it work. It created more problems … and I still had to wait.
Control isn’t the answer. At least not over the situation. But we do have more control than we realize.
We control our reactions. We control how we talk about God during that time. Our focus. Our patience. Our surrender.
Dr. Charles Stanley has a life principle I think applies well here:
By focusing our reactions, thoughts, and emotions on Jesus and His goodness, timing, and faithfulness, perhaps we do have some influence on the situation. Because if God’s trying to accomplish a work in us, resistance will only prolong the waiting.
You may be thinking that old saying right now: easier said than done. Yeah, it is. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done, though.
I’m right smack dab in the middle of waiting—for several things. I’m not the only one, so I thought it might help us all to have a little encouragement. What better encouragement than from the God of all?
I’ve compiled a list of some verses that help me during the in-between. Maybe they’ll help you too.
It amazes me that we’re waiting for something all the time, but we’re not very good at it. I guess practice doesn’t always make perfect. 😉
Waiting isn’t much fun, but I do wonder sometimes if without it what we’re waiting for would be so good.
Do you have a verse that’s really helped you in your in-between time? Be sure to share in the comments below.

Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.
The simplicity of that verse seeps into my soul – every.single.time. Because like you said, waiting often leads to questioning. I’m a people-pleasing-fixer type and and I struggle, too many times, over things that are not mine.
Love your verses – they’re also some of my favorites!
Yes! That’s a great verse, Carol. I often have to remind myself to be still too. It’s easy to get caught up in everything and lose focus. Thanks for sharing! God bless!
Great post and so connected to my latest post where you left such an encouraging comment. Thanks so much.
Great selection of verses. Isaiah 59:1 came to mind for me: “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear…”
I thought the same, Yvonne. It’s funny how a lot of us bloggers do similar posts with no collaboration. Maybe it’s a Holy Spirit thing. 🙂 I love that verse. It’s a great one… Thanks so much for stopping by! God bless!
Great post! We live in a constant time of waiting, but wonder if we realize how much better it is when we release some of the angst to God. The verses you shared help me to know waiting on God is for my good because of His good. Blessed you shared this at #TellHisStory
That’s a great way to think about it, Mary: waiting is for our good because of God’s good. Thank you for stopping by!! God bless.
Hi Ashley…I love the graphics here! Sharing on Pinterest, friend.
Thank you, Sarah!
in between times and waiting can be so hard. But I love the verses you’ve chosen – such great timely words for the wait. Praying with you in your wait!
Thank you, Melody! God bless.

Hi, Sarah! I’m glad these verses were helpful. Thanks for stopping by. God bless.
Thanks for the encouraging verses! Waiting is the hardest! I’m trying to teach my toddlers that, but I need to remember the lesson too!
Yep. Unfortunately, waiting is a life-long lesson. Good luck with your toddlers. Thanks for stopping by!
What practical help! We all have times of waiting and times in-between. Often, we know to turn to scripture – but how thoughtful that you included so many for us! Praying these very verses will encourage your own heart….as you wait “in between.”
What a sweet comment, Jennifer! I’m so glad you found this list helpful!
Great Post! The time in between is always the most difficult so these verses are a blessing! Praying God draws many to your page who need encouragement.

Thank you, Sherry!!
Love these encouraging verse, Ashley! Thank you!
Thank YOU, Leslie!!
I think waiting expectantly, like Micah 7:7 tells us, is key. To me, waiting expectantly demonstrates faith.
Love your graphics!
That’s a great point, Jerralea. Waiting expectantly: I like that. Thank you!!
Love those verses and the reminder and strength they deliver.
Thank you, Debbie! Blessings to you.
Love the quote from Charles Stanley. I also appreciate the Bible verses about waiting. We are always in a time of waiting for one thing or another and you are right in saying that we need to surrender in those times.
Thank you!
Love the verses and the insight. Beautifully done. Thank you for choosing a topic that we all need.
Thank you!!
“We even try to get around the waiting – to skip it somehow like it’s within our control to move things along. I’ve tried that several times, and not one time did it work. It created more problems … and I still had to wait.”
I’ve tried this so many times. I try less now than I used to so I think that equals progress. I don’t know why I think there is an easy shortcut. There’s not!
Thank you for these beautiful scriptures and pictures which make the waiting more bearable. =) I pray your waiting time is all God intends for it to be for you and to quickly accomplish His plan in you. A couple of Scriptures I’ve clung to in my almost 10 years of waiting… Philippians 1:6 and 1 Chronicles 16:34
I give thanks to You God for You are good and Your steadfast love endures forever for us who are waiting…
Trying to speed things up less is definite progress. Thank you so much for stopping by, Lisa. And may God bless your time of waiting.
