My Faith Bucket List

Let’s talk bucket lists. I’m sure you’ve heard of them, but have you ever heard of a faith bucket list?

Paul says in 1 Corinthians:

Do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 NASB

As with everything else in our Christians lives, it makes sense that our bucket lists would be centered on Christ. I think, like most people, I’ve had my list in my head; I just never made it official. Now, it is. 🙂

My Faith Bucket List (in no particular order)

#1 – Become bold in my faith.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m shy. I used to think we all just had different strengths, and we do, but now I’m coming to realize we all have been given the same mission—proclaim Christ aloud.

Action Step(s): Pray for boldness from God. Start with smaller things.
Everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 10:32 NASB

#2 – Be selfless.

I’m selfish, and I don’t think anyone realizes just how much. I want to have no thought as to how things will affect me.

Action Step(s): Do something for someone else each day even if it’s something out of my way for my family.

#3 – Volunteer.

This really goes along with being selfless. Volunteering is inconvenient, so it gets pushed away. I want to volunteer at a retirement home or maybe a soup kitchen. Whatever God leads.

Action Step(s): It’s not feasible to volunteer right now, since we have one car for the household, but I can support those who are volunteering by donating whatever I can whether it’s food, clothes, or any expertise I have (like writing).

#4 – Be debt-free.

This may take a while, but I’m confident it’ll happen one day. We can’t fully follow God’s lead while tied to debt. Proverbs 22:7 says:

Action Step(s): I think I’m already doing everything in my power for this one. We’ve cut our spending to the bare minimum, we try not to put anything else on credit, we don’t open new accounts, and we try to pay more than the minimum balance. I just want to have it here as a concrete goal.
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower becomes the lender's slave. Proverbs 22:7 NASB

#5 – Visit the Creation Museum.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to see a recreation of human history in the context it was meant to be presented? I think so. The Creation Museum, brought to us by Answers in Genesis, has lots to do. Here’s an excerpt from their “About Us” page:

Nearly 150 exhibits feature fearsome animatronic dinosaurs, talking heroes of the faith, and professional displays that honor God´s Word. The museum also boasts a fun-filled, 200-seat special effects theater, a state-of-the-art planetarium, a petting zoo, nature trails, and lots more.

#6 – Visit the Ark Encounter.

The Ark Encounter is the Creation Museum’s sister site. I’ve often tried to picture the enormity of the ark and all the animals stowed on it, but it doesn’t compute in my mind. I’d love to visit this recreation of such a big part of our history. What’s more, there are other things to do there. Here’s a snippet from their “Things to Do” page:

Travel back in time on a mile-long scenic bus ride and ascend in view of the massive Ark. Next, take a wild adventure and soar across gorgeous valleys on a zip line tour. Then spot some exotic animals at Ararat Ridge Zoo, or relax with your friends and family at our casual two-story restaurant.

#7 – Join a choir.

Singing is the best. It’s when I feel closest to God. Maybe that’s why David wrote so many psalms.

Action Step(s): I’m not sure about this one because I don’t know of any choirs nearby at the moment and transportation would be an issue.

#8 – Plant flowers.

The beauty in nature makes me think of God. Maybe it’s because Romans 1:20 says:

Action Step(s): Plant some more perennials because I won’t stick to tending a bunch of flowers.
Since the creation of the world His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20 NASB

#9 – Eat healthy.

For a poor person, that is. Eating healthy can be expensive, but I do want to make healthy choices. The way I figure it, the Bible says our bodies are temples when they house the Holy Spirit, so we should treat them as such. Not to mention, we’ll potentially serve God longer if we’re healthy.

Action Step(s): Substitute grilled for fried chicken when ordering. Eat Honey Nut Cheerios for a snack instead of chips. Do all the little things here and there that can make a big difference.

So there you have it—my bucket list. What’s your faith bucket list? Share in the comments. Have you completed any items on yours?
