Does your heart ever jump when you hear the phone ring? Especially if someone calls who doesn’t usually or someone calls at an unusual time of day. Your first thought is that something’s wrong until you hear the person’s cheery voice on the other end.
This happens to me sometimes now. Well, more than sometimes. As we age, we get those calls that someone’s sick or passed away. The world we knew yesterday is not our world today.
We’re scarred by each one.
We never fully get over loss no matter how much time has passed, because the next one brings with it all the loss we’ve experienced before. I think this is why sometimes things affect me so much when I don’t think it should be a big deal. Loss is loss. Whether it’s a death of a person, a dream, or a special pet, loss is loss.
But, even so, that’s not where it ends. Because I am found in Jesus, loss doesn’t define or defeat me.
The same is true for you if you’ve accepted Jesus as your Savior. You may be wounded, but you’re not broken.
I’ve rounded up a few scriptures on the topic because it really only matters what God says.
I hope this helps you.
Loss is inevitable on this side of heaven.
But we can’t be defeated by it if we have Jesus, and there’ll come a day when Jesus wipes those sorrows away forever.
We’ll have no more goodbyes. We’ll have no more world-tilting phone calls.
Come soon, Lord.

Love your blog! So sorry you have had so much pain and sorrow in your young life! God has blessed you with an insight and wisdom as well as your wonderful talent for writing so that you can help others. God has increased your territory. We cannot help people sometimes with that which we have not experienced for ourselves.
Thank you! That’s definitely an encouraging thought: our losses and trials may be just what prepares us to help someone else. Thank you for always stopping by and leaving a kind word.
How I love these verses you shared. I’ve had so much loss in my life as well, but I know it is through those times God is refining me to be more like Him. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
That’s so true, Penelope. God always uses our losses to mold us. And sometimes it comforts me to know that, although our unique circumstances may be different, we’re all united in loss since we all experience it. None of us is really alone. Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving a kind word. God bless!
