Waiting: Psalms for When You’re Not Sure God Cares

Waiting.

Few words can cast as much fear, anxiety, frustration, and disappointment than the word ‘wait.’ It’s our nature to want things when we want them.

Psalms for When You're Not Sure God Cares Anymore | HISsparrowBlog |christian living, waiting, promises of God

Although I’ve waited for one thing or another all my life, I still struggle with doubt each time. My mind tells me this time is different. What if I don’t get what I’m waiting on? Yes, God brought about everything else in His perfect timing and way, but this time must be different.

Many times I don’t really articulate those thoughts. I try to be okay. Patient. I’ll go a long time thinking I’m doing better.

Then a mom with a baby cuddled to her chest, sits down beside me at the concert and I can’t keep my eyes off the baby, and I wander if the mother is thinking about moving in case I’m a baby-snatcher.

And the discontent comes back again. I remember all the reasons the waiting doesn’t make sense to me and how I’m running out of time and wonder if God even cares anymore—consciously or unconsciously.

God Cares

I don’t know what you’re waiting on today, but I’ll tell you this—just as I’m telling myself right now: I know God cares no matter how the fears and emotions try to make us think otherwise.

I can know that because I’ve waited before and I’ll wait again because I’m not the only one waiting and because I have a written record of the people of God waiting throughout human history. God’s in the midst of it all no matter how we feel about it.

Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord! Psalm 117:1 NASB | HISsparrowBlog | christian living
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34_18 Psalm 34:18 NASB | HISsparrowBlog | christian living
Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. Psalm 116_7 NASB _ HISsparrowBlog _ christian living

Writing this post and putting these psalms together has helped me so much. I pray the same will be true for you as you read them because the truth is always that God cares and He is near. Circumstances and feelings will never change that.

What helps you remember God’s faithfulness and care? I can’t wait to see in the comments below.

I don’t think we’ll ever master waiting until we get to heaven. For myself, I’ve gotten better and I have found that returning to God’s word smoothes the wait. So I wait for him and take comfort in His word.

Love the way you put that – ‘smoothes the wait.’ Thanks for stopping in, neighbor!

Definitely remembering all the ways He has been faithful to answer my prayers – even if not in my own timing. But also, all the ways He’s RESCUED me from things I thought I wanted/needed but He knew would have been disastrous for me. His plans and His timing is always, always, always so much better than our own. Trust isn’t easy for me either – or patience. But then I remember … and I thank Him with hopeful, joyful expectation of what is to come. 🙂 Wonderful post!
