Who I Am Playlist: 45+ Song Reminders for Identity

Music can be a powerful way to process our emotions and truths about ourselves and the world. Between the succinct lyrics, the reminders that we are not alone in our struggles, and the melodies, music can reach us when nothing else can. With that in mind, I’ve created a playlist of songs to remind us of our identity in Christ.

I love to do music posts, and since it’s been a long while since the last one, I thought it high-time to listen to the music

There’s just something about music, don’t you think? Melodies have a way of sticking with us—coming back to mind at the slightest trigger.

Jesus loves me.

I doubt you can read or hear those words without that sweet song playing in your mind.

Jesus loves me. This I know for the Bible tells me so.

Music sticks with us. When I was little, my mom taught me a song to remember the books of the New Testament. I still remember them—probably twenty years later.

Music makes sense of things for us. It’s a natural way for us to express our pain, mourning, gladness, and praise.

Music even validates our emotions by reminding us that we’re not alone. We are not alone in any of our struggles.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart triumphs, And with my song I shall thank Him. Psalm 28:7 NASB | HISsparrowBlog

And have you ever thought about just how much music and singing are represented in the Bible? The longest book in the Bible is a book of songs—and even those songs talk about singing and music.

I have never put together a playlist focused on identity before, so I thought it’d be fun. I had no problem finding plenty of songs for it, which just serves another reminder that we are not alone in our struggle.

I pray you’re encouraged by this playlist. You can play it below or click the YouTube button at the bottom of the video to watch on YouTube (and even save it for later).

Do songs remind you of God’s truth? What songs have been especially encouraging to you lately? Let me know in the comments below.

I do the same, Joanne. Pretty much all day my poor little phone is playing the tunes.

Listening to music plays an important part in worship for me. I especially love Matthew West’s song Amen right now :).

Music affects us as believers – and is important – in so many ways. Whether you are “musical” or, well, not so much! Thanks much for sharing a playlist. What a great idea!

I like that: whether you are musical or not. You know what they say about a joyful noise…God doesn’t care how I sound because He’s too interested in my heart. Thanks for stopping by!

    Ashley,
I love to listen to music while doing things around the house — it makes it less like drudgery. I’m going to pop in your playlist and look forward to being encouraged about who I am in Christ. What a gift — thank you. I read your story and I, too, have stood at that precipice, but thankfully didn’t go through with it. I’m really glad I stopped by!
    Blessings,
    Bev xx
